Goodness knows how much it cost Jung Min Yoo to tick an item off his bucket list by attending the Wham for the games against Peterborough and Ipswich. We hope it was money well spent – for the club, Jung’s trip delivered a PR dividend that money can’t buy. The 25 Korean was a magnet for column inches in local and national newspapers and he even made it to Football Focus when the BBC cameras turned up for the cup.
Quite rightly, Jung Min Soo was feted by all and sundry at Accrington Stanley. MD Dave Burgess gave him a guided tour of the ground; majority shareholder Andy Holt bought him a pint after the game and we – OASSC – presented him with an away shirt. all the while the camera were clicking…
Not bad for a man who only started following Stanley in October 2017, after reading a BBC Sport article that featured an interview with Andy. (You can still read the article online HERE).
The whole episode gave us an idea: y’see, even though the man who makes a 10,000 mile round trip to see the team play gets all the media attention, what we really need are a whole bunch of new people making the 10 mile (or less!) return trip to watch the Reds on a regular basis. As Coley never tires of saying, (and who can blame him?), we just don’t get the numbers through the turnstiles to compete on a level playing field. Just by holding our own in League 1, we’re punching well above our weight.
If we could add another thousand supporters to our existing fan base, living within a five mile radius of the ground, it’d make a hell of a difference to the club and ultimately, to the town of Accrington and the borough of Hyndburn.
You Can Help
If you subscribe to our newsletter, you’ll soon be getting a special e-mail, which OASSC urges you to forward to three people, who are not fans, inviting (or maybe challenging?) them to sample the atmosphere when Southend United visit us at the end of February. (It’ll have ‘The Jung Min Yoo Experience’ in the subject line). By forwarding that e-mail to three contacts, and cc’ing me at email@example.com, you’ll be entered into a draw. If you’re successful, (and with just 151 subscribers you’re in with a decent chance), then we’ll invite you and your friends to attend the game against Southend United, as guests of OASSC, to enjoy…
The Jung Min Yoo Experience
Whilst we can’t promise the BBC will feature your group on Football Focus, (in fact, we can virtually guarantee that they won’t), we can assure you of the other red-carpet features that Jung Min Yoo experienced.
- Free match tickets and programme. (JMY didn’t get free tickets. In fact, he spent over £250 buying a season ticket).
- A guided tour of the Wham conducted by Dave
- A post-match pint with Andy
We’ll make the draw at our next committee meeting on Thursday, 24 January. If you’re our winner, we’ll let you know on Friday, 25th January, and we’ll set up the ‘Jung Min Yoo Experience’ for your contacts in time for the game versus Southend United, on 23 February.
So keep an eye on your in-box and get forwarding! And by the way, if you would like to subscribe to our newsletter, you can do so by clicking HERE.
Come on peeps! As loyal supporters, the least we can do is to reach out to friends, family; neighbours and workmates and invite them along.
