From his position as a representative of L1 & L2 clubs on the National Council of the Football Supporters Association (FSA), our OASST Chairman, Peter Leatham, was part of the group that presented to the government’s fan-led review of football under the guide of former sports minister Tracey Crouch.
The review is taking evidence from all sectors of the game before presenting its finding and recommendations in the autumn of this year.
Peter was asked to highlight the positives of a good owner / fan relationship that we have developed at Accrington Stanley with the help of Andy Holt and David Burgess.
The panel was informed of the benefits of our fans forums, the successes of the Fanzone, winners hour and our overall welcoming attitude to visiting supporters and the financial benefits it brings to the club.
The outcome summary being that:
(Engagement + visibility) / understanding = sustainability
Peter was joined by representatives from Leyton Orient, Oldham Athletic, Hull City, Plymouth Argyle, Northampton Town, Cheltenham Town Doncaster Rovers & Grimsby Town.
The topics covered were ownership, Protection of assets, Fan Elected Directors, Financial oversight & Transparency & Engagement.
