Members’ Newsletter – May 2021

Welcome
Welcome to the final Newsletter of the 2020-2021 season.
It’s a safe bet that back in April/May last year we thought we would never have a stranger season than the one which was abandoned due to COVID-19. Fast forward twelve months and we’ve just completed one of the best seasons we’ve ever had and none of us has been to watch the team play. A brief flirtation with home supporters at Shrewsbury has been the only time there’s been a crowd to watch what Coley reckons has been his best squad ever play. Just imagine what they might have achieved with the Clayton End behind them and the fantastic support we manage to take on the road.
We know the next season isn’t going to be 100% ‘normal’ either, but let’s hope the whole thing isn’t played out behind closed doors!
I’ve tried to put together a taste of what you will find on the website on a daily basis – the ubiquity of the web means that we can pass on information much more frequently and immediately that by relying on a newsletter alone. If there is anything you want to contact me about, please use my email address editor@onstanleyon.com. Mike Procter.

Food Bank

The Official Accrington Stanley Supporters Trust (OASST) and the Accrington Stanley Community Trust (ASCT) launched a joint appeal for donations of non-perishable food for local charity Maundy Relief.
Maundy Relief’s foodbank service provides a lifeline for many people in the Accrington area. Their need for this service has never been greater. There are people who have been affected by COVID, losing income or having to self-isolate.

Shirts to Sierra Leone

Stanley have been involved in a heartwarming story of international cooperation when it came to light that a football club in Freetown, Sierra Leone which calls itself Accrington Stanley, were being forced to borrow football kit to play matches in. The Supporters’ Trust initially planned to fundraise to help the team out, but our club rallied to the cause and now a shipment of spare kit is on its way to West Africa.

Thanks for the excellent newsletter, can you remind me of my raffle number as I seem to have mislaid it, I know my payment goes out monthly but cannot remember the number, thanks
I’ll ask Josh to email it to you.
This is an excellent newsletter especially for overseas fans to see how the ground is being developed. Perhaps as sales of the cards are sent overseas we could feature people with their card and their location and publish them in the newsletter
Thanks Tony. I’m happy to do features on any fans, whether they’ve lived in Accy all their lives or whether they live in Outer Mongolia. If you have a tale to tell about your love of Stanley, email me, with photos, and I’ll find space for you.
The end of such a successful season on the field, that has been a challenge in so many ways. OASST and the community that is ASFC, has done itself proud
